Program Notes

Originally composed to honor those lost in the 9/11 attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, this concert band piece, poignant in tone, begins with groups of woodwinds and then brass. The second section is also dark, but the combination with movement in the percussion section is very effective. The climactic moment is a full band setting of the hymn tune A Mighty Fortress before a haunting ending.

- Program Note from publisher
