Program Notes

Konzerte für 2 Klarinetten und Orchester, Op. 35 (1802) or Concertante in E-flat Major, Op. 35, is one of two concerti that Krommer wrote for two clarinets, the second being written in 1815. It is classical in form and texture, coming a mere ten years or so after Mozart’s first novel exploration of the possibilities of the clarinet concerto for his friend Anton Stadler. There is no doubt that Krommer’s work is a particularly delightful addition to the repertoire of the clarinet and of the late classical concerto.
