Program Notes
Imagine all the things in life that are just plain fun, and you get an idea as to what this piece is all about! Lively and upbeat, you'll get that same adrenaline rush felt when soaring downhill on a motorcycle, bicycle or skis. Those feelings of joy are priceless and should not be soon forgotten.
- Program Note from publisher
This engaging work was commissioned in memory of a middle school band student. Intended to represent all things in life that are exciting and fun, the piece begins with a spirited percussion introduction using alternating meters that leads to a full ensemble section featuring a bold melody stated initially by the trumpets. The following section begins with a playful clarinet melody accompanied by vibraphone and marimba. Additional woodwinds are added, leading to a brief passage with full ensemble hits. At this point, and through the remainder of the piece, the mood becomes busier and even more playful as feelings of exhilaration and joy are expressed through attractive melodic and harmonic material and effective contrasts of texture and dynamics.
