Biography

Julius Lehnhardt (28 August 1846 - >1917 [dates vary]) was a German composer.

Lehnhardt served in the No. 2 Garde Regiment zu Fuss [Foot] as a musician. Soon well known for his march compositions, his publisher touted him as the "finest and most famous German march writer." [This was before the time of Blankenburg, Teike, and Blon.] A great celebration was held for the 40th birthday of Emperor Wilhelm II, and the opening musical work played was Julius Lehnhardt's Mit Gott für Kaiser und Reich Marsch (With God for Kaiser and Germany).

After his career in military music, Julius Lehnhardt became Secret Privy Councilor in the administration of Chancellor Bismark. There have been many dates given for the death of Julius Lehnhardt, but it is now known that he attended a jubilee festival of his publisher in 1917; hence it was some time thereafter that he died.
