Program Notes
Commissioned by the Madison Symphony Orchestra for its 75th anniversary season. Originally for orchestra, arranged for wind ensemble by the composer.
-Program Note from score
The title, which translates as “to shout for joy’, reflects the generally celebratory mood of this short “mini-overture”. Although the piece - commissioned by the Madison Symphony Orchestra for its 75th anniversary season - celebrates the anniversary milestone and bright future of the orchestra, I chose to title it in Latin as a small way to honor the past as well.
The work opens with a solemn “fanfare” by the solo trumpet. This theme, based on a tune appropriate to the occasion, is then taken up by the horns and the rest of the orchestra in a fanfare of celebration. This gives way to jubilant new musical material...
