Program Notes

Journey by Night investigates a phenomenon common to all mankind: dreams. Sudden changes in tempo, dynamics, and mood represent the random sequence of events in a dream. The opening motive is repeated three times throughout the work, indicating several stages in the dream sequence. The fanfare represents the intensity with which dreams can come and go. This dramatic new composition runs the gamut of the emotional spectrum, demanding the full range of performance skills.
