Joseph Hasper

Biography

Joseph Hasper (b. 1963) is an American educator and composer of instrumental and vocal music in styles ranging from jazz to post-modern.

Dr. Hasper studied composition with Marvin Lamb and Konstantinos Karathanasis at the University of Oklahoma, and Marilyn Taft Thomas and Leonardo Balada at Carnegie Mellon University.

His music has garnered prizes from the Anton Stadler Competition, National Federation of Music Clubs, University of North Carolina 360° Jazz Initiative, and Texas Small School Band Association Competition prizes. He was guest composer at the Fresno New Music Festival and has received grants from New Music USA Composer’s Assistance Program, the Robberson Fund, University of Oklahoma Graduate Research Program, and Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts.

Dr. Hasper is director of jazz at Grove City (Penn.) College, where he teaches music theory and composition.
