Biography

Jacob J. Ali (b. 1998) is a Troy, N.Y., based composer and trumpeter.

Mr. Ali holds a B.A. in music composition from the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam.

His music has been featured at the NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester and at the Crane School of Music. Jacob has had performances by the Crane Jazz Ensemble, Crane Symphonic Band, Crane Trumpet Ensemble, Ithaca High School Band, and Tamarac High School Band. Now [2020] Jacob focuses on bluegrass music, performing on all five of the standard quintet instruments: fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, and bass.

As a trumpet player, Jacob has performed with the Crane Symphony Orchestra, Crane Opera Orchestra, Crane Wind Ensemble, Crane Jazz Ensemble, and the Capital Region Wind Ensemble among many others. Primarily a classical trumpet player and percussionist, he has also performed on flute, clarinet, and saxophone.
