Program Notes

This new selection was influenced by the rhythms and sounds of calypso, a style that can be traced back to the twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago during the early 20th century. One tempo throughout, the work is s “Molto moderato,” and is characterized by the syncopated rhythms and distinctive percussion ostinato.
