Program Notes

"Courage is an inner resolution to go forward despite obstacles."

With these words, Dr. Martin Luther King captures an essential truth of the human experience. The journey of life presents an unrelenting succession of obstacles to be overcome; some small, some large... some external and visible, but perhaps more unseen and known only within.

The enduring question before us is whether we will determine to go forward, or surrender to circumstance. Ultimately, perhaps the greatest courage is in acknowledging our human weakness, and finding an inner resolution to reach out for the One who is higher than ourselves.

Inner Resolution was commissioned by Buddy Deshler, and premiered by the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Wind Ensemble, featuring Mr. Deshler on solo trumpet.
