Program Notes

I was honored when asked to write a piece in honor of John Aylsworth, an Indiana music education legend if there ever was one. John's passing was a tremendous loss to our profession, but I'm hoping this piece will conjure up some of the many wonderful memories shared by so many of his colleagues and students. A huge thank you goes to John's son, Luke, who is now in his father's former position as director of bands at Springs Valley Junior/Senior High School in French Lick, Indiana. It was Luke's idea to honor his father's memory with this piece. In reading John's eulogy, Luke stated the following...

He was a marching band state champion, state runner-up, 29-time ISSMA State Finalist, a Bands of America Grand Championship Semi-Finalist, a Kentucky Colonel. He was the Orange County Community Foundation Philanthropist of the Year, he had an Indiana House resolution written in his name when he retired, he was a state champion Fine Arts Academic Team coach, the recipient of the Indiana Music Educators Association Hoosier Musician Award. He was in the first class of inductees of the Springs Valley Hall of Fame, and was presented the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash. You couldn't find a better educator.
