Program Notes
Ice Breaker was commissioned by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania wind and brass faculty for their 2015 tour of Russia. A prelude and fugue for combined Woodwind and brass quintets, it pays homage to Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra. The work, for ten solo players, exploits the virtuosity of each individual.
