Program Notes

I Am a Fine Musician is an adaptation of an old Czech song which serves as an effective tool for introducing each instrument individually and then in combination, providing a perfect tool for instrumental recruiting programs, as well as for the sheer delight of combo music making. Students sing together a little ditty accompanied by an ensemble of clarinets and bassoon (bass clarinet, bari saxophone) which introduces one instrument at a time. The word instrument in the ditty, is replaced by the name of the instrument which will be featured in the solo break. Written solos are provided for the instrumental solo breaks for each instrument. However, improvisation could be introduced at this point.

I Am a Fine Musician

I am a fine musician,
I practive ev'ry day.
The people come from far away,
just to hear me play my instrument,
my instrument, the love to hear my instrument.
