Program Notes

The Institute of Modern Art (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno - IVAM) is Valencia, Spain, is particularly dedicated to the research and promotion of modern art works of the 20th century. Modern art is necessary as a means of expressing our real-life experiences. The art center houses both permanent and temporary exhibitions, and offers non-exhibition activities such as talks, educational workshops, concerts and series of publications.

The year 2007 marked the 18th anniversary of the IVAM. On this occasion, the museum commissioned a piece from composer Ferrer Ferran. He wrote this symphonic overture (oberatura sinfónica para banda) in honor of the institute. IVAM is a piece inspired by the philosophy of this very art which is on display at one of the most emblematic landmarks of 20th century culture. The music is stirring, sparkling and modern, and even has a light jazz flair every now and then.
