Program Notes

This moving work is intended to convey gratitude and respect for those selfless men and women who defend the freedoms that Americans hold dear. Both a song of blessing and a hymn of protection, the composition begins slowly, with a soft solemn statement by winds only. The pace then quickens as a stately snare drum passage introduces a bold, dignified melody played by the trumpets. The piece moves to a dramatic final section that briefly includes material drawn from America the Beautiful.
