Program Notes

Horizons West depicts the grandeur of the American frontier through the use of bold instrumental colors, vivid harmonies, and folk-like melodies. The opening trumpet fanfare is developed through the entire ensemble before the main theme is stated in the clarinets. This is also developed through various textures before the piece concludes with a brief reprise of the opening fanfare.
