Program Notes

One of the most beloved of all Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, South Pacific opened on Broadway in 1949, and ran for 1,925 performances. It was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1950. Set in the South Pacific during World War II, it tells the story of two Americans, stationed in the South Pacific, who fall hopelessly in love with two islanders.
