Biography

Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber von Biber (b. August 12, 1644 in Wartenberg, Bohemia (Czech Republic); d. May 3, 1704 in Salzburg) was acclaimed as an outstanding violin virtuoso and composer at the age of twenty-two, when he was employed as Kapellmeister to Prince-Bishop Karl Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn in Olomouc, Moravia. After a four year tenure, Biber moved to the court of the Archbishop of Salzburg as Conductor of Music. Biber's musical personality was primarily influenced by the florid Italian School. Into the precise form inherited from his models, Biber injected elements of his ethnic and cultural origin.
