Program Notes
Although this march is named after the horsemen of the Great Elector of Brandenburg (1640-1688), it does not date from that period. Cuno Graf (Count) von Moltke wrote it in the late 1800s and dedicated it to Kaiser Wilhelm II. It was assigned as a slow parade march to the 1st Regiment of Life Guards, Grosser Kurfürst, which Count von Moltke commanded from 1896 to 1899.
