Program Notes

Mark Williams describes Grant County, in eastern Washington near the Big Bend of the Columbia River, as "dry, open, flat, with irrigated farm land and an occasional tumbleweed, very much the wild west, and beautiful in its own way." Grant County Celebration has three distinct sections, the character of which are described by Williams as "a heroic statement of the wild west, a second theme reflecting the strong Spanish culture of the region, and a slow section reflecting the loneliness of the open west."
