Program Notes

Incorporating the hymn tune Holy Manna from the shape-note tradition of the nineteenth century, Glory! presents the listener with sounds that typify the growth and expansion of America in her early days.

This was a time in our history when life was often quite difficult to manage, but by clinging to the simpler values of family and faith, even the most seemingly insurmountable problems were quckly overcome as mothers, fathers, sons and daughters forged ahead to tame the earth and explore news paths. These were the builders, and this was their music.
