George E Gates
George E. Gates (21 May 1920, Kankakee, Ill. - 19 November 2004, Dallas, Tex.) was an American composer and educator.
Gates studied at Hardin Simmons University and the VanderCook College of Music. A music educator, he was a bandmaster in several Texas schools and then taught percussion instruments at Southern Methodist University. He performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and for summer musicals in the Dallas area. In addition, he operated music stores in Louisiana and Texas. Most of his works are for symphonic band.
