Program Notes

This piece, which is based on the image of a person making great strides toward the future, is my debut work and was selected as an assignment piece for the 1992 wind band competition.

I took the time to look at it again before re-releasing it this time. I am both embarrassed and fascinated by the score I wrote about 30 years ago .... I can feel the passion of my youth, but there are many things I would not do now. I had my doubts, but I decided to re-release the music as it was in the first edition, except for a few parts, so that people can enjoy the sound as it was in those days. Those of you who played this competition test piece when you were students must be over 40 years old now. We hope that you will recall the forceful development, easy-to-understand structure, and lively rhythm condensed into four minutes, which were typical of the pieces of those days, and play it for the first time in several decades. We hope that you will have enough stamina to take on this challenge.
