Program Notes

Frenetico was commissioned in the summer of 2020 by a consortium of conductors and ensembles from all over the United States. The work is conceived and composed for flexible instrumentation ensembles with as few as six players, with optional percussion. It can also be played by any other size ensemble with equal success.

The work is influenced by one of my favorite American composers, Peter Mennin, who sadly only wrote one piece for wind band. Frenetico makes use of some of his compositional techniques and harmonic approaches in a compact setting.
