Program Notes

This medley of folksongs is equal parts Italian and Irish. The work begins with the well-known Irish folksongs The Girl I Let Behind Me; No One Can Love Like an Irishman; The Galway Piper; and the unmistakable Irish Washerwoman. The arrangement then moves to a slow and reverent treatment of the Italian melody The Fair Maid of Sorrento and closes with the rousing, exciting, and immensely popular Italian folksongs Tarantella and Funiculi, Funicula.
