Program Notes
Flurry for Winds and Percussion, in composed in 1983, was commissioned by and dedicated to the John M. Langston Junior High School Band in Danville, Virginia, with Robert R. Paquette directing. A flurry is defined as :a sudden blast or gust of wind." The composer intended to capture this with the fast-paced nature of this work. The brass section is placed in opposition to the woodwinds and horns throughout much of the piece, with the percussion section reinforcing both choirs.
