Program Notes

This tour marks the world premiere performances of this new work for wind ensemble. Commissioned by the Gustavus Wind Orchestra with the generous support of an anonymous Gustavus family, Flourishes is a festive, dynamic, and playful concert opener combining the composer’s well-known Hollywood and concert styles.

Bruce Broughton is a 10-time Emmy award winner and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Score (Silverado). He is one of the most prolific and decorated American composers of film and concert music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
