Program Notes

Commissioned by Dr. Joe Parisi for the UMKC Conservatory Bands

Lens flares are a visual phenomenon that occur from flashes of intense light. Found in photos and videos, these flares manifest as starbursts, rings, and other spatial artifacts that often add intensity to the image.

This fanfare builds its own sonic flares through resonant overtones and fluttering woodwinds soaring above brassy clusters. In addition to these flares and flutters, marital rhythms resound with antiphonal toms and heavy percussion drawing the fanfare to its final climax.

Fares/Flutters Fanfare was commissioned by Dr. Joe Parisi for the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Conservatory Bands.
