Program Notes

Fighters of Fate is the latest concert work from six-time Emmy award-winning composer Gary Kuo. Adapted from music produced for a mobile video game currently in development, this fast, bright, and exciting concert opener takes the listener through one complete level of game play using themes and motifs heard during the titles, magic card selection, and battle stages. In addition to an extensive use of brass, the work was written to showcase the percussion section. “I often see many fine musicians waiting around simply to play a few isolated measures,” says Gary Kuo, “so I wanted to write something special with them in mind.”

Gary Kuo originally wrote the music for the game in 2017. The music was adapted for wind ensemble for the La Sierra University (Riverside, Calif.) Wind Ensemble, conducted by Giovanni Santos, for a Carnegie Hall premiere in March 2018.
