Program Notes
Roger Nixon composed a number of works in the genre that he labeled “Fanfare-March,” a form with roots in the marches of Sousa, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofieff. Festival Fanfare-March is quick, bright, and effervescent. In 1973, the piece received the American Bandmasters Association’s Ostwald Award, one of the most prestigious awards for wind band compositions.
