Program Notes

Ralph Vaughan Williams was so taken with the melody Kingsfold that he arranged it for use in the English Hymnal (1906). It has subsequently been published in 98 different hymnals and is used around the world. Two texts have been set to the tune: O Sing a Song of Bethlehem and I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say. Many other texts have been written for the tune, but these to remain the most popular.
