Program Notes

Since the dawn of time, many great and powerful civilizations have emerged around the planet. From the sands of Egypt, to the vast domain of Rome, empires have risen to power only to and fall again into obscurity. This powerful work takes us on a journey through time and history as we witness the rise and fall of these great civilizations.

-Program Note by publisher

This engaging composition takes performers and audiences on a journey through time as they witness the rise and fall of great civilizations. A mysterious opening section featuring low brass and woodwinds introduces a faster, more energetic main section, with powerful melodic material initially stated by trumpets, horns, and alto saxophones. A gentle, contrasting passage, beginning with high woodwinds accompanied by triangle and cabasa, builds to a bold full ensemble final section, bringing the piece to a dramatic conclusion.
