Program Notes

Inspired by our national tragedy suffered on September 11th, this emotionally charged original ballad from the pen of Gordon Goodwin will bring out your ensemble's musicality. Moving and lush, ending with a sense of hope reaffirmed.

- Program Note from publisher

At the time of this writing, The United States was undergoing a period of turmoil as the war against terrorism continues with no sign of a quick resolution. The terrorist attacks September 11, 2001, were arguably our country's most tragic moment, but history tells us that out of adversity comes growth.

Ever Braver, Ever Stronger is intended to convey musically a range of feelings about being an American in te world today. The composer's hope for us as a country is that while we mourn for the lives lost, we also display the courage to do what we must and the fortitude to stick to the task, as we have always done in the past. Former Mayor of New York Rudolph Giuliani said after the 9/11 attacks that Americans would remain "ever braver, ever stronger." His empowering words are the inspiration for the title of this piece.
