Erik Desimpelaere

Biography

Erik Desimpelaere (b. 28 June 1990, Harelbeke, Belgium) is a Belgian composer, pianist and conductor.

Mr. Desimpelaere obtained a master’s degree in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Piet Kuijken, and a master’s degree in composition from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Wim Henderickx and Luc Van Hove. In 2018 he obtained a bachelor's degree in orchestral conducting at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Ed Spanjaard and Lucas Vis.

Erik Desimpelaere is the principal conductor of the Royal Symphonic Wind Band Vooruit Harelbeke. He is also the curator of the International Composition Competition Harelbeke (ICCH), a competition that encourages composers from all over the world to integrate the musical language of the 21st century into compositions for symphonic wind band.
