Program Notes
Epoch / ee-pok / noun 1. an event or a time marked by an event that begins a new period or development. 2. an extended period of time usually characterized by a distinctive development or by a memorable series of events. 3. an instant of time or a date selected as a point of reference (as in astronomy).
Epoch was conceived in the final quarter of 2020 during the infamous Covid-19 pandemic. It is composed in a three-act structure of denial, desperation, deliverance and shared as what I feel represents challenging moments like those which were forced upon many during this challenging year.
Epoch was commissioned by Hamiruge-the LSU Percussion Group, Brett W. Dietz, director.
