Program Notes
Sotará is the name of a high volcano and also identifies a small municipality perched over the steep mountains of the southwestern department of Cauca. The piece is considered Cauca’s unofficial regional anthem, and is easily identifiable due to its graciously syncopated melody that goes from a minor key at the beginning to major key in the contrasting section.
