Program Notes

A heroic journey through wild landscapes, sweeping mountain vistas with soaring mythical beasts overhead? Does this overstate the piece? Whatever imagery this work brings to your mind, Kevin McKee's mastery of writing for trumpets will make certain that it is vivid, immediate, visceral and breath-taking.

- Program Note from publisher

Written for six trumpets, Dürrenhorn Passage was commissioned by Dr. James Zingara and the Troy University trumpet ensemble. Premiered at the 2009 ITG Conference in Harrisburg, Penn., McKee strives to “depict flight through an epic alpine landscape.” The first section is propelled by motor rhythms and a soaring melody traded in pairs amongst the ensemble. An introspective chorale provides a moment of calm before a return of the original material leads to a triumphant conclusion.

- Program Note by Luke Camarillo for the New England Conservatory Trumpet Sextet concert program, 23 December 2020
