Program Notes

The title of the work can be considered as a hieroglyphic, since it somehow represents the macroform, divided into five sections (D-RE-D-RE-D). Most of the elements that are going to come into play are related to the RE sound; as a modal tonic, as a tonal dominant, and even as the axis of a chromatic cluster of five sounds that is also deployed horizontally in its 120 possibilities.

The thematic oscillates between the minimal cell of two sounds, and the two main motives, the contrapuntal treatment of the first of them, and the lyricism of the second. Already from the introduction we also observe the coexistence of two opposing forces, one with a sinusoidal character and the other with a unquestionable, monolithic one.

Finally, it remains to highlight the leading role assigned to the percussion.

The work was completed in January 1999, and was selected by the Generalitat Valenciana as a compulsory work in the XXI Certamen de Bandas de Música de la Comunidad Valenciana Community (1999).
