Program Notes

This engaging programmatic composition conveys the mythical tale of a fearsome Norse warship and its attack on a smaller vessel. The warship slowly emerges from the mist during a soft, mysterious opening section. The pace suddenly quickens as drum beats call the ship's oarsmen into action. The chase is on as the music builds to an energetic full-ensemble section. An eerie quiet interrupts the proceedings as the smaller ship sails into the fog as an effort to evade its pursuer. The intensity builds during a soft, rhythmic passage as the ships glide through the mist. Suddenly the warship attacks its prey during an intense final section that brings the piece to a dramatic conclusion.
