Program Notes

This piece for solo trumpet with concert band showcases both the fanfare-like qualities and the warmer, melodic sound of the instrument. The music is written in A-B-A form in one continuous movement; a brief cadenza for the soloist provides an opportunity for expressive technique, following a lyrical middle section.

The work was commissioned by Southwestern Michigan College (Dowagiac) to mark the 30th anniversary (1998) of the college's first graduating class.
