Program Notes
This song was created by the graduating seniors of a high school band club in Hokkaido, Japan. Each band member contributed parts of the text, which they then put together and practiced diligently, keeping it secret from their director. Naming it after their primary contest piece of the year, Daphnis et Chloe’s Lever dujour, the song was presented to the director at the club’s graduation ceremony.
The text of the song is as follows:
Always with your great heart that surrounds
You gave hope when I could not feel the past
You gave me strength when I wanted to run away
You have given me wings
Bathing in the dawn’s rays, my wings are spread to the future
Watch over me forever more
Meeting you I have found a partner
Always with gentle eyes, you’ve watched over me
If I were stronger, I would have become more faithful
Now, what I can do is shine
You have given me wings
Bathing in the dawn’s rays, my wings are spread to tomorrow
Watch over me forever more
You have given me wings
Bathing in the dawn’s rays, I spread my wings to the future
Watch over me forever more
Watch over me
