Program Notes

Danses rituelles was commissioned by Musique et Culture.

The first movement, "Lento maestoso", is a call to incantatory forces which gradually introduce the different instrumental families. These united form an assembly of gleaming sound, furthered by the dynamic "Dance Finale."

The second, "Dance Finale", beings with Tempo gracioso, a moderate tempo, that develops with the help of an increasingly tight rhythmic and harmonic progression.

The vibrating mass of sound reaches a climax at the end of the movement celebrating the appearance of life.

Thus, Danses rituelles will end in fullness and joy.
