Program Notes

With its shimmering fanfares and mysterious, weaving themes, Dance of Sprites evokes the elusive and rapid display of “sprite” lightning, which are electrical discharges that occur in vivid colors over thunderstorm clouds. Typically lasting for only a few milliseconds, sprites rarely appear to the human eye, but are beautifully ethereal when captured on camera. Though the sprites’ “dance” is near-impossible to witness, its spirit is here portrayed through celestial melodies that seem to beckon listeners towards something they cannot see.
