Program Notes

Cubano is a fun piece filled with energy. As the name implies, this work uses rhythms similar to those found in Cuban music, and throughout the islands. The bass part provides a steady driving bass line while the four upper parts provide the rhythmic diversity. Cubano is in the form of an extended rondo, ABACABA. As with the composer's other works, when a section is repeated, it is given a different rteatment. Beginning fairly simply, the work becomes more complex rhythmically and polyphonically as it nears its conclusion.
