Program Notes

Written for Steven Sykes, Concerto for Tuba opens with a majestic statement punctuated by truculent chords from the band. This leads to a ritmico movement full of virtuosic flair. The second movement explores the tender, lyrical side of the tuba, whilst the third movement demonstrates the gymnastic abilities of the instrument finishing with an animated conclusion.
