Program Notes

Originally for solo trombone and concert band, Ticheli has reduced the instrumentation to solo trombone, two pianos and percussion. The solo requires extraordinary technique and a four octave range. Two versions of the third movement cadenza are presented; the original and an alternate, extended cadenza requiring greater virtuosity and range.
