Program Notes

Wilby in smiling mood: zestful, airy and contemplative. The sun shines on soaring phases, piquant sonorities and gently astringent rhapsodic freshness. This three movement concerto has an unsentimental lyricism, melodic invention and eloquently rewarding solo writing that should place it on the short list of major concertante works for the instrument. Light but not slight – a joy to play and hear.
