Program Notes

Circusmusiek by Dutch composer Ton Ter Doest is one of the first and still the most frequently played works for the reed quintet. Consisting of an unorthodox instrumentation -- oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon and alto saxophone -- the reed quintet is the brainchild of Calefax, an Amsterdam-based group of musicians who have been hard at work winning fans and influencing young musicians worldwide since 1985.

Circusmusiek is just as the title depicts: a series of brief but exciting movements that ushers the listener through all the thrilling offerings of the big top.
