Program Notes
Richard Rodgers and lyricist Lorenz Hart wrote Circus on Parade for a stage show, Billy Rose’s Jumbo, in 1935. It was also included in the film Jumbo, released in 1962, that starred Doris Day, Martha Raye, and Jimmy Durante. Shortly after the release of that film, the Saturday afternoon sports show, CBS Sports Spectacular, used it as its theme song.
