Program Notes

Written by Elliot Del Borgo, this piece contains three short movements. The chorale section is a simple ten-measure melody with beautiful intricate harmony, and is repeated with an added flute counter-melody. The second section is the canon. A canon is similar to a round, where one person begins singing a melody; then two measures later, another person begins the same melody. A popular example of the round is “Row, Row, Row your Boat.” In the second movement, listen carefully for the entrance of different sections playing the same melody. The third movement is the same chorale heard at the beginning, but with more energy and added percussion.
